Peer review is the arrangement used to assess the quality of a manuscript before it is published. Independent researchers in the related research area assess submitted manuscripts for originality, validity and significance to help editors determine whether a manuscript should be published in AJB.

AJB uses double-blind review, which means that both the reviewer and author identities are hidden, throughout the review process. The reviewers do not know the names of the authors, and the authors do not know the name of reviewer.

To facilitate this, authors need to confirm that their manuscripts are prepared in a way that does not give away their identity.

The manuscript submitted to AJB will be reviewed by two suitable experts in their respective subject areas. The reports of both the reviewers will be considered when deciding on acceptance/revision or rejection of a manuscript. Editor-In-Chief will make the final decision based on the reviewer’s comments.

Flow chart
The editorial peer review process
[ Submitted manuscript]

Official screening
The editorial office will assess the manuscript for quality and adherence to the guidelines of the journal sent to the managing editor

Managing editor
The managing editor will do an initial assessment of the manuscript and decide whether to reject or send
the manuscript for the further review process. This is the first decision about the manuscript and send through Editor-in-chief

Editorial assignment
Editor-in-chief will assign a single national and single international reviewer (editorial board member whose knowledge and expertise is matching with the subject area) to the manuscript.

With reviewer
Reviewers will carry out an assessment of the manuscript and submit their comments to the managing editor.

Editorial decision
The managing editor will prepare the final report based on both his and the reviewer’s comments about
the manuscript and will convey a final remark to the Editor-in-chief.
Based on his report and remark Editor-in-chief will make a final decision about your manuscript like
Accepted or Major revision needed or Minor revision needed or Rejected.

  • The accepted manuscript will go to publication after completing APC, final editing and proofreading
  • A manuscript with major or minor revisions needs to be resubmitted as a revised manuscript after
being revised as per the reviewer’s comments and will undergo the same review process
  • Rejected manuscripts should not be submitted again to the same journal.
